Everyone in our class had to come up with a proposal for a theme for the open house. Our client ended up choosing the theme of Hit the Jackpot, a casino theme. This entitled the following:

  • We are planning on having a casino themed open house with the color’s red, black, gold, and white.

  • We are planning to have a red, black, gold, and white balloon arch when students walk into the event.

  • We are planning to have red and black streamers decorated nicely throughout the event space.

  • We are planning to make playing card-based decorations to incorporate to the casino theme.

  • For the food table, we are planning to have 2 black tablecloths.

  • For the registration table, we are planning to borrow a HTM tablecloth scattered with buttons, pens, etc. up for grabs for the undecided major students.

  • We are planning to have tabletop signs throughout the event space.

  • We are planning to have playing cards with careers in the industry on them, and students can pick them. These cards will also have an emphasis this career is in if the students have questions, so they can ask professors and/or graduates at the event.

  • A donated roulette wheel will be at the event for student to spin and win prizes.

Our class was split up into four committees; decorations, marketing, food and beverage, and activities. We also had the event leader who helped communicate between all of these committees.

The decorations committee were in charge of showing the casino theme of the event. They had a maximum budget of $72.68, and ended up spending $68.96. They bought two balloon towers and red and black balloons to stand next to the registration table. They also bought streamers to hand on the walls and food tables, and table cloths for all of the tables. They were also able to borrow some giant playing cards and fairy lights to hang on the walls and lay on the tables. Lastly, they made some giant dice decorations out of cardboard boxes and construction paper provided by Grand Valley.
